Bumthang Cultural Trek

The Bumthang Cultural Trek is a popular hiking route in the Bumthang district of Bhutan. It is a moderate to challenging trek that takes around 3 to 4 days to complete and covers a distance of approximately 45 kilometers. Along the trek, hikers will experience Bhutanese culture and traditions, as they pass through picturesque villages and ancient monasteries, including the famous Jambay Lhakhang. The trail also offers stunning views of the Himalayan mountain range and the Bumthang Valley. The best time to embark on the Bumthang Cultural Trek is between March to May and September to November.

Upon arrival at the Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, you will start your tour with a visit to the National Museum, which houses a collection of Bhutanese art and artifacts, including traditional costumes, weaponry, and handcrafted implements.

Afterward, you will visit the nearby Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery that serves as the administrative and religious center of Paro district. In the evening, you can take a stroll around Paro town and visit some local shops.

After breakfast, drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. On the way, you will stop at Tamchog Lhakhang, a temple built by the famous Tibetan saint Thangtong Gyalpo.

Once you reach Thimphu, you will visit the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in honor of the third king of Bhutan. You will also visit the Folk Heritage Museum, which showcases the traditional Bhutanese way of life, and the Takin Preserve, where you can see Bhutan’s national animal, the takin.

In the afternoon, you can explore the bustling streets of Thimphu and visit some local handicraft shops.

After breakfast, you will drive to Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan. On the way, you will cross the Dochula Pass, which offers stunning panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain range.

In Punakha, you will visit the Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful and historic fortresses in Bhutan. You will also visit Chimi Lhakhang, a temple dedicated to the divine madman, and the nearby Wangdue Phodrang Dzong.

After breakfast, you will drive to Trongsa, the ancestral home of the royal family of Bhutan. On the way, you will pass through Pele La Pass, which offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

In Trongsa, you will visit the Trongsa Dzong, an impressive fortress built in the 17th century. You can also explore the town and visit some local shops.

After breakfast, you will drive to Bumthang, a beautiful valley known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty. On the way, you will pass through Yotong La Pass and enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains and forests.

Once you reach Bumthang, you can take a leisurely stroll around the town and visit some local shops.

After breakfast, you will start your trek to the village of Ngang Lhakhang. The trek will take you through beautiful forests, pastures, and small villages, offering a unique glimpse into the rural life of Bhutan.

You will camp overnight at Ngang Lhakhang and enjoy a traditional Bhutanese dinner cooked by your trekking team.

After breakfast, you will continue your trek to the village of Ugyen Choling, passing through stunning landscapes and traditional villages. You will camp overnight at Ugyen Choling.

After breakfast, walk up to you Tang Ugyencholing Palace.Drive to Jakar, the largest town in Bumthang. On the way, you will visit the Burning Lake, a sacred site associated with Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Buddhism in Bhutan. Upon reaching Jakar, you can visit the Jakar Dzong, a beautiful fortress that overlooks the town. You can also explore the town and visit some local shops.

After breakfast, you will drive to Phobjikha, a beautiful valley known for its winter habitat of the endangered black-necked cranes. On the way, you will stop at the Chendebji Chorten, a stupa built in the style of the famous Bodnath stupa in Nepal.

Once you reach Phobjikha, you can take a leisurely walk around the valley and enjoy the stunning scenery. You can also visit the Gangtey Monastery, an important religious site in the region.

After breakfast, you can explore the Phobjikha valley and visit some local villages. You can also take a nature walk and enjoy the scenic beauty of the valley.

In the afternoon, you will drive back to Paro. Evening at your leisure.

After breakfast, you will hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest monastery, one of the most famous and revered religious sites in Bhutan. The hike will take you through beautiful forests and offer stunning views of the Paro valley.

Once you reach the monastery, you can explore the complex and learn about its history and significance. Afterward, you will hike back down and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
