Laya Gasa Trek
The Laya Gasa Trek is an incredibly picturesque long-distance hike in Bhutan, offering stunning views of the unspoiled landscapes that lie along the Tibetan border. Starting at Drugyel in Paro, the trek will take you through tranquil alpine meadows and over high mountain passes, affording magnificent panoramas of Mount Jomolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tsherim Gang. As you trek along the remote semi-nomadic village of Laya, you will have the opportunity to experience the unique culture and traditions of the Layaps, the indigenous people of the region. Along the way, you may also catch a glimpse of some of the area’s native wildlife, including blue sheep and Takins. The trek concludes with a descent to Gasa, where you can indulge in a day of relaxation at the hot springs to rejuvenate your body and mind.
After your arrival in Paro, you will be greeted by our team and transferred to your hotel. You can spend the day exploring Paro on your own or simply relax and acclimatize to the altitude.
After breakfast, visit some of the most famous sites in Paro,including Drugyel Dzong the National Museum of Bhutan, and Rinpung Dzong.
You will begin your trek to Laya by first driving to Drugyel Dzong, the starting point of the trek. From there, you will trek to Shana, crossing the Paro river and passing through the beautiful pine and rhododendron forests.
The trek from Shana to Soi Thangthangkha takes you through a lush forested path, crossing several streams and waterfalls along the way.
Today’s trek takes you to Jangothang, a beautiful high-altitude valley that offers stunning views of the snow-capped Mount Jumolhari.
Spend the day acclimatizing to the altitude and taking in the breathtaking scenery of the valley.
This is a long and challenging day of trekking that takes you over the Nyile La pass, offering fantastic views of Mount Jumolhari and the Lingshi valley.
The trek from Lingshi to Chebisa takes you through several small villages, with opportunities to meet the locals and learn about their way of life.
The trek from Chebisa to Shomuthang takes you through beautiful forests of rhododendron and juniper, and past several yak herder camps.
Today’s trek takes you over the Jare La pass, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
This is a challenging day of trekking that takes you over the Shinjela pass, offering stunning views of the Himalayan range.
As you make your way to Laya, you will pass through several small villages, with opportunities to learn about the unique culture and traditions of the Layaps.
Spend the day exploring the village of Laya and experiencing the local culture and way of life.
Today’s trek takes you from Laya to Koina, a beautiful campsite that offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks. After lunch at Koina, you will continue your trek to Gasa, passing through beautiful forests and rhododendron groves. Along the way, you may spot some of the native wildlife, such as Takins. Upon arrival in Gasa, you will have the opportunity to relax and soak in the natural hot springs, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the region. You will spend the night in Gasa. This is the end of the trek.
After breakfast, you will depart from Gasa and embark on a scenic drive towards Punakha. The drive takes you through beautiful mountain landscapes and charming rural villages. Upon arrival in Punakha, visit Punakha Dzong, Chimi Lhakhang and Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. Ovenight in Punakha
After breakfast, you will start your journey towards Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. On the way, you will stop at the Dochula Pass, which offers stunning panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain range. You will then continue to Thimphu and visit some of the city’s top attractions, including the Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in memory of the third king of Bhutan, the Buddha Dordenma Statue, a massive statue of Buddha overlooking the city, and the Takin Preserve, where you can see Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin. In the evening, explore Thimphu’s vibrant markets and try some of the local cuisine.Overnight Thimphu.
After breakfast, you will depart from Thimphu and drive to Paro, where you will embark on the famous Tiger’s Nest Hike. The hike takes you up a steep mountain trail to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched on a cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. The monastery is one of Bhutan’s most famous landmarks and is a symbol of the country’s unique culture and spirituality. Along the way, you will enjoy stunning views of the valley below and the surrounding mountains. The hike takes approximately 4-5 hours to complete, including time for a rest stop at a tea house halfway up the mountain. After visiting the monastery, you will hike back down to the base of the mountain, where your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Paro. Overnight in Paro.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Paro International Airport for your departure flight. Your guide and driver will bid you farewell at the airport, marking the end of your memorable Laya Gasa Trek and cultural tour of Bhutan.
