Lunana Village

The Lunana Village hike is one of the most remote and demanding treks in Bhutan, offering a deep dive into the country’s untouched wilderness and ancient highland culture. The journey typically begins in Paro and follows the legendary Snowman Trek route, crossing through valleys and remote settlements like Laya before reaching the Lunana region.

This multi-week expedition traverses rugged landscapes, glacial valleys, and some of Bhutan’s highest mountain passes—many rising above 5,000 meters. The scenery is dramatic, with endless alpine meadows, snow-covered peaks, and pristine rivers. Trekkers often catch views of towering Himalayan giants such as Gangkar Puensum, Bhutan’s tallest mountain.

Reaching Lunana Village is like stepping back in time. Life here is simple and deeply connected to nature, with locals relying on yak herding, farming, and seasonal harvesting of rare medicinal fungi. The villages are isolated for much of the year due to heavy snowfall, making access difficult and preserving their traditional way of life.
