This 22-day journey takes you across Bhutan from west to east, offering an immersive experience of the country’s rich culture, diverse landscapes, and remote highlands. Starting in Paro, visit the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery before exploring the vibrant capital, Thimphu, and the scenic valleys of Punakha. Travel through Trongsa to Bumthang, Bhutan’s spiritual heartland, before heading east to Mongar and Trashigang. From there, venture into the remote highlands of Merak and Sakteng, home to the semi-nomadic Brokpa people. Experience their unique culture and pristine landscapes before continuing to Trashiyangtse and exiting Bhutan through Samdrup Jongkhar, the gateway to Assam, India. This adventure blends history, spirituality, and breathtaking scenery, making it a truly unforgettable journey.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Arrive Paro International Airport

  • Get blessings at the oldest temple Kichu lhakhang, built in 629 AD by a Tibetan king.
  • Visit Paro Ta Dzong, an ancient watch tower turned into one of the best museums of Asia.
  • Rinpung Dzong “Fortress of the Heap of Jewels.”
  • Free to roam around Paro town
  • Overnight Paro (Alt; 2280m)

Day 2: Excursion to Mystical Taktsang

  • After a wholesome breakfast,hike up the forested path to Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest, Bhutan’s most famous and scenic icon. Tiger’s Nest clings to sheer cliffs of 900m above Paro valley. The climb is steep and takes about 4-5hrs round trip.
  • Lunch at the hillside cafe with close Tiger’s Nest view.
  • Overnight Paro

Day 3: Getaway to Haa Valley

  • On rise drive on a scenic countryside to the pristine Haa Valley
  • Scenic drive to Haa Valley via Chelela Pass, the highest motorable pass in Bhutan. (3988m)
  • Enjoy panoramic views of Mount Jomolhari and surrounding peaks.
  • Visit Black Dove & White Dove temple
  • In evening, walk around the local town and talk to villagers
  • Overnight Haa (Alt; 2670m)

Day 4: Thimphu Cultural Tour

  • After breakfast, drive to Thimphu (drive 1hr). Thimphu is a charming capital city nestled in the heart of the Himalayas.Check into your hotel.
  • Visit Buddha Dordenma Statue which offers a spectacular view of Thimphu city. This giant Buddha-statue overlooking Thimphu is one of the biggest in the world.
  • Drive to Sangay-gang where the national animal of Bhutan, the Takin, is found in captivity. This hill is also called the “romantic point” as lovers often come here to enjoy the panoramic view of the Thimphu valley.
  • Visit the General Post Office. You can create personalized postage stamps with your own photo for souvenir or sent home on postcard.
  • Zorig Chusum “School for Thirteen Traditional Arts and Crafts” followed by a visit to Craft Bazaar for authentic local handicraft and souvenir.
  • In the evening walking tour, in Thimphu city
  • Overnight Thimphu

Day 5: Spiritual Hike to Tango Chari

  • After breakfast, drive 14 km away from Thimphu city and hike to the picturesque Tango Chari .
  • Hike to Chari monastery glued to the rocky cliff 300m above the river valley. This 12th century Chari gomba is the most sought-after meditational retreat centre for the monks in the kingdom. (2hr hike).
  • Visit the holy shrines, and spend some time meditating. It’s believed here meditation happens on its own.
  • After picnic lunch by the river side at the base, drive back to Thimphu
  • Visit the Farmer’s Weekend Market for organic fruits & nuts
  • The Tashichhoe Dzong, the main secretariat building, the office of the King and Throne room and also the house of the State Monastic Body
  • In the evening walking tour, in Thimphu city
  • Overnight Thimphu  (Alt; 2320m)

Day 6: Discovering Punakha & Wangdue

  • En route stop by Dochula pass (3150m) to enjoy spectacular views of the eastern Himalayan mountain range.
  • Stroll around 108 stupas and enter Drukwangyel (Royal temple).
  • On arrival, visit the Punakha Dzong, "Palace of the Great Happiness". This beautiful fortress lies between two rivers, the Pochu and Mochu, male and female river.
  • Walk on the 200m suspension bridge above Phochu river to Gidagom village
  • Easy hike along the Metshina village to Chimi lhakhang, a solitary “fertility temple”
  • Overnight Punakha & Wangdue (Alt; 1240m)

Day 7: Gangtey Rural Expedition

  • Drive on different vegetation of alpine, subtropical and glacial. Phobjikha is a glacial valley on the north western tip of the Black Mountain. It’s also one of the roosting grounds of the Black-necked cranes.
  • On arrival, visit Gangtey gomba; the largest Nyingma Monastery of the kingdom
  • On arrival, embark on the Nature trail hike (2hr) across the refreshing Blue-pine forest to Kewa village (1hr hike). Try homemade tea & local snacks at village home. Interact with the monks at Kewa Monastery.
  • Visit the Crane Info Centre to watch the Black Necked Cranes in their natural inhabitants
  • Free to walk around village or drive to your hotel for rest.
  • Overnight Phobjikha (2900m)

Day 8: Trongsa Getaway

  • In morning, drive to Trongsa, stopping for mountain-view at Pele La pass (3,300m). It’s common to spot yaks along this pass.
  • As you reach Rukubji valley, the houses are clustered amid extensive fields of mustard, potatoes, barley, and wheat.
  • En route circumambulate Chendebjichorten, a large white stupa beside a stream.
  • Visit Trongsa Dzong; a white fortress that appears to grow directly up from the narrow green ridge.
  • The ancient Watch Tower which is now turned into a historical museum.
  • Walk around the sloppy town of Trongsa.

Overnight Trongsa (Alt; 2180)

Day 9: Bumthang Landscape Tour

  • Drive to Bumthang via the Yotong La pass (3425m) to Bumthang, the spiritual heartland of Bhutan.
  • En route visit Yathra weaving centre in Chumey valley. The hand-woven woolen cloth produced locally.
  • Visit Bumthang Bewery. A local beer produce called Red Panda
  • Wangdichholing Palace; the first palace of the present Wangchuk dynasty and also the first palace that was not designed as a fortress.
  • Kharchu Draktsang, the biggest Buddhist college of the country.
  • Stroll down from the monastery to the river bank and stroll around the peaceful town of Bumthang.
  • Overnight Bumthang (Alt; 2580m)

Day 10: Bumthang Spiritual Sightseeing

  • After breakfast, visit Jakar Dzong (fortress of the White-bird). It is one of the biggest Dzongs in Bhutan with the surrounding walls about 1 km in circumference.
  • Hike along a series of ancient and important sites such as, Jambay lhakhang, Kurjey lhakhang & Pema Sambha lhakhang  (These temples have many mythical stories linked to its origin and dates back as early as 8th century. Your guide will unfold its mystery as you visit these sites).
  • Visit the Red Panda local beer factory. The manager will show you how beer is brewed followed by a visit to Swiss & local cheese factory in Chumey valley.
  • In evening time at your leisure, free to roam around the villages and valley.
  • Overnight Bumthang

Day 11: Tang & Ura Valley Tour

  • Drive to Menbar Tsho (the burning lake). This lake is the holiest lake in the country and is believed to be a wish fulfilling lake.
  • Drive up the hill to Tang valley and visit the mystical Ugyen Choling Palace. Ugyen Choling is a national treasure. Its remote location makes it the less frequently visited historical sites in Bhutan.
  • After lunch at Ugyen Choling Palace, drive down to visit Tang Rimpoche’s temple and Nunnery.
  • As you arrive Ura Valley; hop into few humble villager’s home for tea and chit-chat. Ura is one of the oldest villages of the kingdom. The people here still live a semi-nomadic lifestyle by herding yaks and sheep.
  • In evening, drive back to Bumthang and time at your leisure.
  • Overnight Bumthang

Day 12: Lhuentse Landscape Tour

  • Enjoy a homemade breakfast in Ura before setting off for Lhuentse.
  • Scenic drive featuring rivers, landscapes, cliffs, forests, waterfalls, and distant glacial peaks.
  • Picnic lunch at Namling’s rocky cliff near the waterfall.
  • Cross Thrumshingla Pass (3,800m) with a view of Mt. Gangkhar Puensum (7,541m).
  • Explore the remote district, known for its stunning landscapes and traditional weaving.
  • Overnight in Lhuentse. (Alt: 1460m).

Day 13: Lhuentshe – Khoma Village – Mongar

  • Visit Khoma village, home of Bhutan’s royal Wangchuck lineage.
  • Observe traditional textile weaving and interact with locals.
  • Explore Lhuentse Dzong  on the way down.
  • After lunch, drive to Mongar, a town built on a mountainside.
  • Stroll around Mongar town.
  • Overnight Mongar (Alt: 1600m)

Day 14: Getaway to Trashi Yangtse

  • Drive across Korila Pass (2,400m); stop for butter lamps and tea.
  • Visit Yadi village and witness weavers making natural dyes.
  • Visit Gom Kora Lhakhang, a sacred temple where Guru Rinpoche meditated.
  • Drive 10km on a farm road to Bomdeling village, a habitat for black-necked cranes.
  • Short hike (1.5 hrs) around Trashi Yangtse villages.
  • Overnight in Trashi Yangtse. (Alt: 1830m).

Day 15: Finding Amity in Trashigang

  • Visit the Zorig Chusum School, which teaches Bhutan’s thirteen traditional arts.
  • Walking tour of Trashi Yangtse town.
  • Circumambulate Chorten Kora, one of only two Nepal-style stupas in Bhutan.
  • Explore Doksum village.
  • Walk around Trashigang town, visit local shops and bars, and interact with the friendly Sharchops.
  • Overnight in Trashigang. (Alt: 1070m)

Day 16: Nomadic Sojourn to Merak

  • After breakfast drive to Merak. Merak-Sakteng in Bhutan offers a distinctive experience with its unique semi-nomadic lifestyle and culture. Situated in the scenic Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary, it provides a rare glimpse into a special way of life in the Trashigang District.
  • Explore the local village to immerse yourself in the daily life and culture of the people, gaining an experience of their unique lifestyle.
  • Overnight Merak (Alt; 3520m)

Day 17: (Dec 20, Wed): Merak Landscape Tour

  • After breakfast, hike to Serphu mountain and the lake near Serphu mountain.
  • After a picnic lunch in the mountains hike back to the village. Roam around Merak village.
  • Overnight Merak

Day 18: Trek from Merak to Sakten ( 8 to 9 hours )

  • After an early breakfast start trekking toward Sakten. It’s a rather challenging trek, ascending to the highest point, Nachungla pass at 4153m.
  • After a gradual climb to the first pass at 3900m, offering a final view of the Merak valley.
  • Descend to the Miksateng at 3080m, surrounded by vibrant rhododendrons.
  • Keep an eye out for the elusive red panda in the trees. Descend from the ridge and enter Sakten valley. Evening roam around the village and immerse in the local culture of “Brokpas”. Eat and dine with a local family.
  • Overnight Sakten  (Alt; 2950)

Day 19: Explore Sakten Valley

  • After breakfast. Hike up to Borong Mang and Borong Tse Monastery and      Kuzhu Lhakhang.
  • After lunch engage with the local community, explore their traditions, and appreciate the Semi- nomadic charm of Sakten
  • Overnight Sakten

Day 20: Sakten to Trashigang

  • After breakfast drive to Trashigang Visit the Radhi Weaving Centre, which is run by local women and produces beautiful hand-woven textiles using traditional techniques.
  • After visiting the weaving center, walk around the village and interact with the friendly locals.
  • Visit the Rangjung Woesel Choeling Monastery, which was founded in the 1989 by His Eminence Garab Dorji Rinpoche and is home to around 300 monks.
  • Evening drive to Trashigang
  • Overnight Trashigang (Alt; 3100m)

Day 21: Trashigang to Samdrup Jongkhar

  • En route Kanglung. Walk around Kanglung’s small town and visit Kanglung College college,
  • Visit the Zangtopelri This temple is a replica of the celestial abode of the second Buddha in heaven.
  • On arrival, check in hotel and free to shop or walk around. Farewell dinner
  • Overnight in Samdrup Jongkhar  (Alt; 233m)

Day 22: Departure via Guwahati ( India )

Drive to Guwahati Airport (India) for departure.

Good to know

We currently offer two payment methods for tourists to transfer payments for Bhutan tours: Wire Transfer and Wise. However, both methods incur a wire transfer fee of $40 to $50, as Wise payments also require a final transfer to Bhutan via wire.
