Overview

Embark on an unforgettable motorcycle tour across Bhutan, starting from the vibrant western region and heading towards central Bhutan. Your journey begins in Paro, where you'll visit the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery. From there, ride to the scenic Haa Valley, known for its untouched beauty and peaceful atmosphere. Continue through the Phobjikha Valley, a stunning glacial valley famous for its black-necked cranes. Ride on to Trongsa, home to the majestic Trongsa Dzong, a historical and architectural marvel. In central Bhutan, explore the historic Punakha Dzong and the beautiful Bumthang Valley, known for its ancient monasteries and serene landscapes. This tour offers a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and breathtaking scenery as you experience the heart of Bhutan.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Paro International Airport

  • Upon arrival at Paro Airport, you’ll meet your guide and will be transferred to your hotel.
  • In the afternoon, embark on the ride through the Paro Valley, heading north towards Drugyel Dzong.
  • On a clear day, enjoy spectacular views of the sacred Mt. Jomohari, which rises to over 24,000 feet.
  • Cross the Lango Village suspension bridge and ride through rural villages to gain insight into local life.
  • Overnight Paro.

Day 2: Paro to Haa – 60 km

  • Take a ride toward the Haa Valley, using Chele La Pass, the highest motorable road in Bhutan.
  • The valley was opened to tourists only in the year 2001.
  • Discover fields full of barley, wheat, millet, and potatoes, and experience the serene, fertile landscapes.
  • Riding time: Approximately 2.5 hours each way.
  • Overnight Haa.

Day 3: Haa to Punakha Valley – 150 km

  • Set off from Haa and journey toward Punakha Valley. Along the way, pass the historic Semtokha Dzong, which dates back to 1629, and offers a fascinating glimpse into Bhutan’s past.
  • Ride up to Dochu La Pass, where you’ll see the 108 stupas, commemorating those lost during a 2002 conflict. On clear days, enjoy panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas.
  • Visit Punakha Dzong and the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan
  • Overnight Punakha.

Day 4: Punakha Valley to Trongsa – 125 km

  • Ride south, passing the majestic Wangdue Phodrang Dzong.
  • As you ascend the Pele La Pass, witness breathtaking views of Black Mountain National Park and spot yaks along the road.
  • Stop by the village of Rukubji, surrounded by fields of mustard, potatoes, and barley. Keep an eye out for Rhesus macaques and other wildlife.
  • Visit Trongsa Dzong, perched dramatically above the valley.
  • Overnight Trongsa.

Day 5: Trongsa to Choekhor Valley (Jakar Town) – 68 km

  • Visit the fascinating Tower of Trongsa Museum, housed in a historic watchtower, offering captivating insights into Bhutan’s past.
  • Continue your ride to the Choekhor Valley, known for its ancient monasteries, including Jambay Lhakhang and Kurjey Lhakhang.
  • Wander through Jakar Town and interact with the friendly locals.
  • Overnight Bumthang

Day 6: Excursion to Ura Valley – 80 km

  • After breakfast, ride to Ura Valley, the highest of Bumthang’s four valleys, and explore its quaint village with cobblestone streets.
  • Alternatively, enjoy a leisurely day in Choekhor Valley, with options to visit Tamshing Monastery or the Swiss Farm, which offers locally produced wine, cheese, and apple brandy.
  • Overnight Bumthang

Day 7: Bumthang to Phobjikha Valley – 120 km

  • Head west to the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, a glacial valley.
  • Visit Gangtey Monastery and take a hike along the Gangtey Nature Trail.
  • Phobjikha is a winter home to the rare black-necked cranes, and the birds migrate annually from Tibet and Siberia.
  • Overnight Phobjikha.

Day 8: Phobjikha Valley to Punakha – 90 km

  • Spend the morning exploring Phobjikha Valley, and visit the Black Crane Nature Centre.
  • Take a scenic detour through Wangdue and visit Lhuendrup Sangchhen Dorji Nunnery.
  • Overnight Punakha.

Day 9: Talo & Nobgang Village

  • Take a scenic hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten, which offers breathtaking views of the valley.
  • Ride to Talo and Nobgang village
  • Overnight Punakha.

Day 10: Punakha Valley to Thimphu – 78 km

  • Ride to Thimphu, passing over Dochu La Pass.
  • Dodernma Statue, Sangay Gang and Takin Preserve
  • Visit the Memorial Stupa,Tashi Chho Dzong
  • Evening time at your leisure
  • Overnight Thimphu.

Day 11: Tango Cheri Hike – 14 km

  • Enjoy a ride to the Tango and Cheri Monastery, towards north of Thimphu.
  • After the hike, visit the Craft Bazaar and the Weekend Market
  • Overnight Thimphu.

Day 12: Excursion to Tiger’s Nest – 70 km

  • Ride to Paro Valley and hike to the Taktsang Monastery ( 4 – 5 hrs round trip )
  • Enjoy lunch at the Viepoint Café.
  • Farewell dinner at a farm house
  • Overnight Paro.

Day 13: Departure from Paro International Airport

  • Our representative will bid you farewell at the Airport. Tashi Delek!

Good to know

We currently offer two payment methods for tourists to transfer payments for Bhutan tours: Wire Transfer and Wise. However, both methods incur a wire transfer fee of $40 to $50, as Wise payments also require a final transfer to Bhutan via wire.

  • Within 30 days: 35% of the total cost
  • Within 21 days: 50% of the total cost
  • No-show in Bhutan: 100% of the total cost
