Overview

Set out on an unforgettable 15-day birdwatching adventure across nine diverse districts in Bhutan, home to some of the world's rarest birds. Explore pristine forests ranging from 150m to 3,890m in elevation, offering stunning landscapes, rich biodiversity, and incredible wildlife encounters. Spot iconic species like the Great and Rufous-Necked Hornbills, Ward’s Trogon, Himalayan Monal, Blood Pheasant, Satyr Tragopan, Ibisbill, and Yellow-rumped Honeyguide—endemic to the Eastern Himalayas. With the chance to see 250-270 bird species and 10-15 mammals, each day brings new discoveries. Tour Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Paro

  • Meet our representative upon arrival in Paro.
  • Transfer to Thimphu and enjoy a scenic drive.
  • Overnight Thimphu

Day 2: Paro – Chelila Pass – Thimphu

  • Early morning drive to Chelila Pass (3,890m) for alpine birdwatching.
  • Return to Paro for lunch, then drive to Thimphu.
  • Evening birding near Thimphu’s sewarage pond.
  • Overnight: Thimphu

Day 3: Thimphu – Punakha

  • Drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3,150m).
  • Stop at Lamperi Botanical Garden for birdwatching.
  • Continue to Punakha with a lunch stop en route.
  • Visit the iconic Punakha Dzong in the afternoon.
  • Overnight: Punakha

Day 4: Punakha – Tsirang

  • Drive south through some of Bhutan’s least explored forests.
  • Evening birdwatching in Tsirang and Darachu.
  • Overnight: Tsirang

Day 5: Tsirang – Gelephu

  • Morning birding in Tsirang and Darachu forests.
  • Descend to Gelephu, home to lowland bird species.
  • Overnight: Gelephu

Day 6: Gelephu

  • Morning birdwatching at the sewage pond and surrounding fields.
  • Afternoon exploration of the rich lowland forests north of Gelephu.
  • Overnight: Gelephu

Day 7: Gelephu – Tamala – Tingtibi

  • Scenic drive towards Tingtibe, with birdwatching stops along the way
  • Overnight: Tingtibi

Day 8: Zhemgang – Tingtibe – Gomphu Road

  • Explore the Dakphel-Tingtibe road in the morning.
  • Afternoon birding along the Gomphu road, leading to Manas National Park
  • Overnight: Tingtibe

Day 9: Zhemgang – Trongsa – Bumthang

  • Morning birding in Zhemgang’s rich habitats.
  • Scenic drive through Trongsa to reach Bumthang.
  • Overnight: Bumthang

Day 10: Bumthang – Sengor – Namling – Yongkala

  • Drive via Phrumshingla Pass (3,800m) to Sengor.
  • Evening birdwatching in Sengor.
  • Overnight: Sengor

Days 11: Yongkala – Namling – Limithang Road

  • Morning birding in Sengor and Phrumshingla before heading to Yongkala.
  • Spend  your day birding along Namling and Limithang roads.
  • Overnight: Yongkala

Days 1: Namling – Limithang Road

  • Spend your second day birding along Namling and Limithang roads again
  • Overnight: Yongkala

Day 13: Yongkala – Trongsa

  • Retrace the route back to Trongsa, birdwatching en route.
  • Overnight: Trongsa

Day 14: Trongsa – Paro

  • Six-hour drive back to Paro, stopping for birdwatching along the way.
  • Overnight: Paro

Day 15: Departure

Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure.

Good to know

We currently offer two payment methods for tourists to transfer payments for Bhutan tours: Wire Transfer and Wise. However, both methods incur a wire transfer fee of $40 to $50, as Wise payments also require a final transfer to Bhutan via wire.

  • More than 45 days before the tour: Free cancellation
  • Within 30 days: 35% of the total cost
  • Within 21 days: 50% of the total cost
  • No-show in Bhutan: 100% of the total cost
