Buddha Dordenma Statue​


The Buddha Dordenma is an iconic and towering statue located in Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Standing at an impressive 54 meters (177 feet) tall, it is one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world. Made of bronze and gilded in shimmering gold, the statue exudes a powerful sense of peace and presence, watching over the Thimphu Valley from its hilltop perch in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park.

Inside the massive structure are over 125,000 smaller Buddha statues, each crafted from bronze and also gilded. These statues, placed within the body of the main statue, are a testament to Bhutan’s deep devotion to Buddhism and its rich spiritual heritage. The Buddha Dordenma was constructed to fulfill an ancient prophecy, said to bring peace and happiness to the world, and to commemorate the 60th birth anniversary of the Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

The statue overlooks the city and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Thimphu, especially at sunrise and sunset.
