Kuenga Rabten Palace, located in Trongsa District, central Bhutan, is one of the most significant historical residences of Bhutan’s monarchy. Built in the early 20th century during the reign of the second King, Jigme Wangchuck, it served as his winter residence due to the relatively milder climate of the region compared to Bumthang.
Strategically positioned on a hillside, the palace overlooks the Mangde Chhu river valley, offering both scenic views and strategic advantage. The architecture of the palace blends traditional Bhutanese dzong design with residential features, showcasing exquisite woodwork, intricate carvings, and symbolic murals reflecting Buddhist iconography.
The palace is a three-story structure with courtyards, royal apartments, and temples.
