Duenmang Hot Spring

Duenmang Hot Spring, locally known as Duenmang Tshachu, is a well-known natural hot spring located in Nangkor Gewog, Zhemgang. Nestled on the banks of the Mangdechhu River at the base of Kamjong Hill, this hot spring sits at an elevation of around 500 meters and is one of the most sacred and visited sites in the Kheng region of central Bhutan.

According to local legend, the hot spring was discovered by a hunter following a deer, which disappeared into the rocks. The site is believed to have been blessed by Guru Rinpoche, and many believe that his spiritual presence still lingers there. The spring has a strong religious and cultural significance and is also known for its healing properties.

Originally consisting of four natural pools, the number has increased over time to accommodate more visitors. The pools vary in temperature, with each believed to offer specific health benefits. Many people visit the spring to seek relief from ailments such as joint pain, digestive issues, sinus problems, skin conditions, and respiratory illnesses.

Reaching the hot spring involves about an hour’s walk down a scenic trail from the highway near Praling. The path was once steep and dangerous but has since been improved with safety railings and shelters to make access easier and safer.

At the site, visitors will find basic facilities, including a guesthouse with dorm-style accommodations, bath areas, and waste management systems. Despite its remote location, the hot spring area now has mobile network coverage, allowing visitors to stay connected.

The best time to visit Duenmang Tshachu is during the winter months, from November to March, when the weather is cooler and the healing waters offer the greatest comfort. The serene environment, spiritual ambiance, and therapeutic waters make Duenmang Hot Spring a cherished destination for both locals and travelers.
