Manas Wildlife Safari

The Manas Wildlife Safari in Zhemgang takes place in the Royal Manas National Park, Bhutan’s oldest and one of its most biologically rich protected areas. Located in the southern part of Zhemgang, the park forms a vital conservation link between Bhutan and India, covering dense subtropical forests and river valleys.

The safari experience offers visitors a chance to see a wide variety of wildlife in their natural habitat. Notable species include Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, golden langurs, clouded leopards, and the rare one-horned rhinoceros. The park is also a haven for birdwatchers, with hundreds of bird species including hornbills and the endangered white-bellied heron.

Adventurous activities such as jeep safaris, elephant-back rides, guided nature walks, and river rafting enhance the experience. These allow visitors to explore different terrains and get close to the park’s diverse ecosystems, from riverbanks to deep jungle interiors.

In addition to wildlife, the safari also offers cultural encounters through eco-camps run by local communities. Guests can enjoy traditional meals, hot stone baths, and cultural performances while supporting sustainable livelihoods. Trails such as the Gomphu-Manas route offer immersive trekking experiences through pristine wilderness areas.

The best time to visit is during the dry season from November to April, when animals are more easily spotted around water sources. During the monsoon, the park becomes lush and green but can be more difficult to access.

With its unique mix of wildlife, culture, and eco-tourism, the Manas Wildlife Safari in Zhemgang stands out as a premier destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers in Bhutan.
